Kawasaki Rail Escapes Subway Video Patent Infringement Case

Kawasaki Rail Car Inc. beat claims that it infringed a patent covering video displays in subway cars that the Patent Trial and Appeal Board found invalid, after a Manhattan federal court ruled in its favor.

Scott Blair owns U.S. Patent No. 6,700,602, covering screens that “provide a public service message display system, entertainment system and advertising system for mass transit subway cars.” Blair alleged in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York that Kawasaki’s railcars infringed the patent and contributed to infringement by third parties including the New York City Metropolitan Transportation authority.
