A French court’s €2 million copyright infringement award over photos used in the art book “The Picasso Project” may be enforced after the US Supreme Court declined to hear the case.
Art reference book company Alan Wofsy & Associates argued the Ninth Circuit wrongly overturned its win against the estate of Yves Sicre de Fontbrune. The estate had sued Wofsy and his company in France because “The Picasso Project” included, without permission, photos of Picasso works taken by Christian Zervos. Yves Sicre de Fontbrune acquired the rights to Zervos’ “Cahiers d’Art” in 1979.
