Justices Pass on Patent Eligibility Again in Heart Monitor Case

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to review a Federal Circuit decision reviving a cardiac monitoring patent, again refusing to wade into the muddled law on eligibility.

InfoBionic Inc. convinced a federal trial court that parts of U.S. Patent No. 7,941,207, owned by CardioNet LLC and Braemar Manufacturing LLC, covered nothing more than an abstract idea. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit reversed, finding the claims patent-eligible because they focus on a specific method for improving existing technology.
