Jury Clears Overhead in Chamberlain Garage Door Patent Trial

Overhead Door Corp. beat a patent case brought by the Chamberlain Group Inc. related to smart garage door system technology, dodging a potential multimillion-dollar award at trial.

A jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas found Overhead didn’t infringe Chamberlain’s patents. The jury also decided two of the patents are invalid.

Based in Illinois, Chamberlain is the maker of the LiftMaster and MyQ technology for remote monitoring. It sued Texas-based Overheard Door and the Genie Company in March 2021, accusing them of infringing its patented technology.

Chamberlain had been seeking roughly $63 million at trial. ...
