Judge Wary of Authors’ Bid for More Meta Records in AI Lawsuit

A California federal judge questioned the necessity of authors’ demands that Meta Platforms Inc. turn over more records in their lawsuit accusing the tech giant of copyright infringement over its AI model.

Judge Vince Chhabria told authors’ counsel he wanted to “make it very clear” that they lost on their copyright infringement claims related to Meta’s use of works to train AI models. The only remaining claim covers Meta’s alleged distribution of the works, he said during a hearing Monday in San Francisco.
