Judge Tells Studios to Serve AI-Copyright Suit or Face Dismissal

A judge threatened to toss out Disney Enterprises Inc.'s and other studios’ copyright suit against Chinese AI startup MiniMax if they don’t show they served MiniMax the lawsuit.

In an order to show cause, Judge Stanley Blumenfeld Jr. said more than 90 days passed without proof of service filing. Failure to respond to the order—with proof MiniMax was served within the 90-day service period or good cause to extend that time—by Dec. 29 will be “construed as consent to dismissal without prejudice,” he wrote in the filing issued Dec. 19 and docketed Tuesday.
