Judge Sinks Brunswick, Volvo Penta Effort to Undo Patent Ruling

A Virginia federal judge rejected a request from Brunswick Corp. and Volvo Penta of the Americas LLC to vacate his decision declaring five patents Brunswick asserted against the Volvo Group unit ineligible.

Judge T.S. Ellis of the District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia denied the two boat engine makers’ joint motion seeking to undo the ruling part of a settlement between them that resolved disputes in federal courts in Virginia and Delaware and at the US Patent and Trademark Office.
