Intel, VLSI Speed Toward Trial Over Fortress’ Patent Control (1)

Intel Corp. will get to tell a Texas jury that VLSI Technology LLC is controlled by Fortress Investment Group in hopes of dodging a $1 billion patent verdict.

Judge Alan D. Albright of the US District Court for the Western District of Texas denied both Intel and VLSI’s competing motions for summary judgment Thursday, ruling the matter is “complex” and should be resolved in a jury trial “to assure a just result and facilitate appellate review.” Albright said the trial, set for May 27, will concern control of VLSI.
