Israeli Copyright Law Changes Spark Opposition (Corrected)

Changes to Israel’s copyright law by lawmakers aiming to help corporations protect vast swaths of intellectual property are drawing fire from some intellectual property practitioners and photographers who say the changes could disadvantage individual copyright holders.

Under the amendments,online piracy is criminalized and courts can block infringing websites. Direct online infringement now carries a jail sentence of up to three years. Courts can block access to sites linking to pirated material and order internet service providers to reveal the identity of the infringing party, under the amendments.
