Intel, VLSI Duel Over IP Licensing Deal in Texas Patent Suit

Intel Corp. and VLSI Technology LLC sparred again over whether a 2012 license agreement blocks the patent owner’s infringement allegations against the processor giant.

Intel argued its 2012 patent license agreement with Finjan Inc. includes VSLI’s protected technology because both patent owners are controlled by Fortress Investment Group, in a Feb. 28 redacted motion for partial summary judgment—which was originally filed under seal Feb. 21—in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas. It asked the court to limit a potential May trial to whether Finjan and VLSI are under common control.
