Intel Pushes Licensing-Deal Immunity Defense in Texas VLSI Suits

Intel Corp. once again told a Texas federal judge a 2012 patent licensing agreement gives it immunity from two VLSI Technology LLC patent-infringement lawsuits that led to verdicts that combined for more than $3 billion.

The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled in December that Judge Alan Albright of the US District Court for the Western District of Texas erred in preventing Intel from arguing its defense in one trial, in which VLSI won a $2.18 billion verdict.
