Intel Adds Licensing Argument in Long-Running Texas Patent Fight

Intel Corp. can make the case a 2012 patent licensing agreement gives it immunity from a VLSI Technology LLC patent-infringement lawsuit that led to a $949 million verdict, a Texas judge ruled.

Intel has pushed this argument since February 2021 in the case — one of two filed by VLSI that led to more than $3 billion in combined verdicts. The court has so far granted the defense in only one case, according to an order filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.
