Intel Corp. failed to persuade a Patent and Trademark Office tribunal to invalidate part of a computer memory circuit patent that a rival sued the chipmaker for infringing.
The Patent Trial and Appeal Board said Intel fell short of proving that the claims in U.S. Patent No. 7,706,207 were obvious in light of prior patents, a publication and a patent application.
VLSI Technology LLC had sued Intel in California federal court for allegedly infringing the patent with its Intel Core i3, i5, i7 and other processors. The court paused the case last year for PTAB proceedings.
