Intel Locks in Win Over Qualcomm Memory Patent at Appeals Court

Intel Corp. convinced a federal appeals court to affirm an administrative tribunal’s invalidation of a Qualcomm Inc. memory patent, the latest turn in a lengthy dispute over the processors inside Apple Inc.‘s iPhones.

The Patent and Trial Appeal Board was right to invalidate the remaining claims in US Patent No. 8,838,949 after reversing its earlier construction for “hardware buffer,” Judge Richard Taranto wrote for a three-judge panel in an opinion issued Friday in the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
