An insurance software company filed a new federal lawsuit seeking declaratory judgment that its new database management system doesn’t infringe the copyrights of its previous licensor’s software even though it was created by the same developers.
Acacia Insurance Managers LLC said that while the new software licensed by Edgepoint Systems LLC has “technical similarities” to previous software, the two are “distinct in function, design, and application,” according to the complaint filed July 5 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
