A seller of insurance to Christian churches tried to head off a patent infringement suit through a preemptive action accusing the owner of a website-configuration patent of being a “patent troll.”
Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Co. sued Aloft Media LLC in the US District Court for the Northern District of Indiana Monday, alleging Aloft tried to “extract” money for use of its patent covering website drop-down menus. The suit seeks a declaration that the patent is invalid and not infringed by Brotherhood. The insurer also slammed the patent owner’s purported business strategy.
