In Chile, Kellogg’s, Nestle, Pepsico Defend Food Mascots

Some of the world’s biggest food companies are going to court in Chile to defend their right to use their trademark mascots after authorities used a law restricting the marketing of foods deemed unhealthy to children to ban such well-known characters as Kellogg’s Tony the Tiger, the Nesquik bunny and Frito-Lay’s Chester Cheetah.

Most recently, Evercrisp Chile, a subsidiary of PepsiCo Inc., challenged an order by health authorities to remove cartoon characters from Cheetos and Gatolate snack products packaging in the Second Civil Court of Santiago May 17.
