Ikea’s North American unit must face allegations by Innovaport LLC that its mobile app and website infringe four patents that help locate a product within a store and pair the results with other relevant information, a Wisconsin federal judge ordered Friday.
The order denies the Swedish furniture company’s bid to dismiss the suit, saying it’s too early to determine whether the patents cover abstract ideas. Judge Brett H. Ludwig wrote that “Innovaport plausibly alleges that its patents contain inventive concepts” and the claims should be allowed to move forward.
