IBM, VirtaMove Settle Software Containerization Patent Cases

VirtaMove Corp. and IBM Corp. are finalizing a settlement to end the Canadian software company’s patent infringement suits against the tech giant.

VirtaMove sued IBM and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. in early 2024 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, accusing both companies of copying a pair of software containerization system patents. Those cases were consolidated in April 2024.

VirtaMove filed a separate suit against IBM in June alleging infringement due to Big Blue products in the same technology area, along with similar suits against Google LLC, Amazon.com Inc., and Oracle Corp.
