IBM Can Look at Overseas Sales in Software Copyright Lawsuit

IBM Corp. is entitled to discovery related to foreign sales of allegedly copyright-infringing software by a former business partner because the copies were allegedly made in the US, a New York federal court ruled.

IBM is seeking to secure damages from overseas sales of products it says Micro Focus Inc. copied from its business management software. The Newbury, UK-based firm primarily objected to discovery relating to such sales on the basis of their claim that there was no impermissible copying.
