Hyundai Gets $5 Million From Gray-Market Parts Seller

A company that imported gray-market Hyundai auto parts agreed to pay $5 million to the South Korean carmaker for willfully infringing its trademarks, according to a document published in North Carolina federal court.

The consent judgment published Tuesday also permanently blocks Direct Technologies International Inc. from importing “non-genuine” Hyundai parts or further infringing Hyundai’s trademarks.

Hyundai had also filed a related action at the International Trade Commission to stop DTI from infringing its trademarks through unlawful importation. DTI failed in its attempt to get the court to halt the ITC proceeding in July.
