Hulu Wins Streaming Patent Case as Court Says It Didn’t Infringe

Hulu LLC‘s video-on-demand products don’t match the patent at the heart of a nine-year infringement battle over streaming technology, the Federal Circuit said.

Sound View Innovations LLC’s US Patent No. 6,708,213—which describes a way to achieve faster and higher-quality streaming—requires a performance of two steps in sequence, according to a precedential opinion issued Thursday by the appeals court. “Because the accused products do not perform the claim limitations in the required sequence, they do not infringe,” the ruling authored by Judge Raymond T. Chen said.
