Huawei, Verizon Agree on Mediation in Patent-Royalty Dispute

Huawei and Verizon have agreed to “private mediation” in part of their dispute over royalties for telecommunications patents, according to a court filing in Marshall, Texas.

  • NOTE: A mediator’s job is to help both sides come to an agreement; its findings aren’t binding as would be the case with an arbitrator
  • The mediation will occur in one of two cases Huawei filed against Verizon, involving patents related to industry standards
  • Huawei sued Verizon a year ago in Marshall after the two sides were unable to reach an agreement on how much the phone carrier should pay in patent royalties
