HPE Drops Server Patent Case Against Quanta Computer for Now

Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Co. moved to dismiss its patent infringement lawsuit against Quanta Computer Inc., eight days after it initially sued Quanta in California federal court.

HPE alleged Oct. 22 that Quanta infringed four patents related to its servers. Its Oct. 30 motion to dismiss the case in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California would allow it to refile the claims later.

Quanta was specifically accused of infringing U.S. Patent Nos. 7,567,522; 7,966,389; 8,218,566; and D699,720. The utility patents broadly relate to router, network, and server-control technology, and the design patent covers a hard-drive carrier design. ...
