HP, Lenovo Devices Infringe Communications Patents, Lawsuits Say

Universal Connectivity Technologies Inc. alleged HP Inc. and Lenovo Group Ltd. infringed its patents through the sale of monitors, docking stations, and laptops after refusing to license its technology.

Universal, a subsidiary of Wi-LAN Technologies Inc., allegedly tried to negotiate with HP and Lenovo to sell both companies licenses for eight of its technology patents, according to complaints filed Thursday. HP didn’t respond to numerous letters from the company seeking licensing discussions and Lenovo declined to purchase licenses after multiple rounds of conversations, Universal said in similar lawsuits.
