HP, Dell, Asus Lose Bid to Add Defenses in Laptop Patent Suits

A Delaware federal judge barred HP Inc., Dell Technologies Inc., and ASUSTeK Computer Inc. from adding fraud-based defenses in patent suits accusing their laptops of infringing LiTL LLC patents covering multi-mode, hinge-based device designs.

The computer makers failed to justify reopening their defenses after the court’s deadline, Judge Richard G. Andrews wrote in a Jan. 30 opinion issued in the US District Court for the District of Delaware. He rejected bids to accuse LiTL of patent fraud and improper inventorship that were based largely on testimony from inventor Yves Behar taken months after the deadline to amend pleadings. ...
