Hot Topic Sued After ‘Satanic’ Hacker Stole Customer Data (1)

Hot Topic Inc. was sued in California federal court after a hacker who goes by the name “Satanic” began allegedly selling customers’ personal data on the dark web.

The clothing retailer failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity practices to prevent the October 2024 data breach, according to a proposed class action filed Friday in the US District Court for the Central District of California. Hot Topic and retailer Torrid LLC face negligence, breach of implied contract, unjust enrichment, and unfair competition claims.
