Homeowner Suit Against Liberty Mutual to Stay in Federal Court

A proposed class action against Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. over its alleged misrepresentation of the basis for declining to renew California homeowners’ insurance policies will remain in federal court.

Judge Robert S. Huie of the US District Court for the Southern District of California on Wednesday denied the plaintiff’s motion to send the case back to state court.

Maria Badin filed the proposed class action against Liberty Mutual in state court in December 2024. The complaint said Liberty Mutual declined to renew Badin’s policy in 2024, citing the condition of her property determined by an aerial inspection.
