Hidden Empire Film Group LP, the production company behind indie films including “Meet the Blacks” and “The Intruder,” alleged in a new lawsuit that actor Mark Chalant Phifer ripped off their trademark when registering his own.
The company and its owners asked a California federal court to cancel Phifer’s mark for Hidden Empire Film Group LLC, weeks after an administrative tribunal declined to do so.
In a complaint filed Oct. 28 in the Eastern District of California, Hidden Empire LP, filmmaker Deon Taylor, and producer Roxanne Avent Taylor said they have priority in the company name.
