Heineken Says New Cuba Trademark Law Doesn’t Touch ‘La Tropical’

A new federal law barring US courts from recognizing trademark rights traced to those expropriated by the Cuban government doesn’t apply to a Heineken NV unit’s “La Tropical” beer trademark lawsuit, the brewer told a judge.

Soltura LLC has no grounds to cancel Cerveceria La Tropical’s trademarks under the No Stolen Trademarks Honored in America Act, according to La Tropical’s motion to dismiss the counterclaim in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
