Hasbro Escapes Game Royalties Lawsuit From Toy Inventor

Hasbro Inc. defeated a lawsuit in New York federal court brought by a toy inventor claiming the company failed to pay him royalties for sales of games based on ideas he pitched to Hasbro’s products acquisitions department.

David Wexler, who sued in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, failed to show his ideas for “mash-up” games were novel and that Hasbro unlawfully used the ideas. Judge Valerie E. Caproni dismissed with prejudice Wexler’s claims of breach of implied contract, misappropriation, unfair competition, and unjust enrichment.
