Grumpy Cat Targets Alleged Counterfeiters in Illinois Lawsuit

Grumpy Cat Limited, the official source of merchandise for the viral and oft-memed celebrity cat, on Thursday sued a number of alleged online counterfeiters in a Chicago federal court for trademark and copyright infringement over sales of “inferior imitations” of its products.

In a complaint filed in the Northern District of Illinois, Grumpy Cat claimed that the counterfeiters—who it believes reside in the People’s Republic of China and other foreign jurisdictions—created several online stores designed to appear as if they were selling genuine Grumpy Cat products.
