Grindr User’s Sex Abuse Case Has 9th Cir. Pondering Age Filters

A lawsuit alleging LGBTQ dating app Grindr Inc. connected an under-age user with men who raped him had a panel of Ninth Circuit judges questioning the role of online age verification in determining legal liability.

Judge Jay Bybee, at oral arguments Tuesday before the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, appeared concerned about Grindr’s position that even if someone were to invent an effective and easy to implement age verification system, the app would have no legal obligation to use it.
