Greensboro, N.C., Defeats Appeal in Loan Denial Race Bias Suit

Greensboro, N.C., defeated a minority-owned TV network’s race bias claims, as the Fourth Circuit Thursday affirmed the network failed to show it was wrongfully denied a loan to produce a television sitcom.

Even assuming any loan terms were burdensome or unreasonable, BNT Ad Agency LLC and its owners, Michael and Ramona Woods, didn’t demonstrate they were denied a loan because of racial animus, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit said in an unpublished opinion.

The city agreed to lend $300,000 to BNT, to be secured by the Woodses’ home. Their financial statement listed a “personal residence” valued ...
