‘Grand Theft Auto’ Maker Says Gamer Platform Profits From Its IP

Take Two Interactive Software Inc. sued a platform for buying and selling video game assets, accusing it of profiting from stealing “Grand Theft Auto V” trademarks and copyrights.

PlayerAuctions Inc. provides “a vast online marketplace containing thousands of listings for unauthorized” content that infringes Take Two’s popular franchise, the complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Central District of California said. While the “GTA” franchise features a “fictional underworld of lawless enterprise, the entities behind PlayerAuctions operate a real one” selling infringing, hacked and stolen assets, it said.
