Google Wins Its Half of July ‘Showdown,’ Nixing a Sonos Patent

Alphabet Inc.'s Google LLC won a California federal judge’s ruling canceling a Sonos Inc. patent related to transferring playback of a queue of songs from one device to another, resolving the second of two issues covered in last month’s “patent showdown” between the companies.

Sonos alleges Google infringes the patent by equipping “control devices” such as smartphones or tablets with certain apps that can transfer media playback to devices such as smart speakers or televisions, which Google refers to as casting.
