Google Urges Court to Remove It From Authors’ AI Copyright Suit

Google LLC is trying to escape a copyright lawsuit from six authors by saying it shouldn’t be lumped together with other tech companies accused of pirating books to build artificial intelligence models.

Infringing the same copyrights cannot be the basis of including Google in the roster of defendants, the company said in a Tuesday filing in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. The other companies defending against the case include OpenAI Inc., Meta Platforms Inc., xAI Corp., and Perplexity AI Inc.
