Google Sued by Textbook Firms for Promoting Pirate Site Ads (1)

Several major textbook publishers sued Google LLC in New York federal court Wednesday, alleging it profits from ads for counterfeit book websites and calling the search giant’s response to takedown requests “a circus of failures.”

Publishers including McGraw Hill LLC, Elsevier Inc., Cengage Learning Inc., and Macmillan Holdings LLC alleged in their complaint the tech giant has knowingly “reaped profits” from the “sale of infringing works through pirate websites Google promotes.” The suit, filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, said Google threatened to stop reviewing notices because the publishers re-submitted notices it failed ...
