Google, Sonos October ‘Patent Showdown’ Trial Is Punted by Judge

A California federal judge canceled the “patent showdown” trial that had been set for October in a heated dispute between Alphabet Inc.'s Google LLC and Sonos Inc. over audio technologies, reserving the issues of willful infringement and damages for the main trial in May 2023.

Judge William Alsup, in an order issued Thursday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, also gave Google until Sept. 15 to file a brief about why he shouldn’t issue a judgment reflecting his July 21 ruling, which upheld the validity of a Sonos patent for controlling audio speakers ...
