Alphabet Inc.’s Google signed a strategic agreement with nuclear project developer Elementl Power Inc. to develop nuclear power sites in the US in another example of the tech industry’s appetite for the energy source.
The deal will see Google commit early-stage development capital for three projects, with each generating at least 600 megawatts of capacity, according to a Wednesday statement. The tech company also has the option to purchase the power once projects are complete, the statement said. One large-scale US nuclear reactor typically has a capacity to produce about 1,000 megawatts.
