Google Seeks Ruling Its Battery Functions Don’t Infringe Patents

Google LLC filed a lawsuit seeking a judgment that battery-saving functions used in its smartphones, tablets, and wearable products don’t infringe Headwater Research LLC’s patents.

Functions used in Android products including Battery Saver, Doze Mode, App Standby, and Data Saver don’t infringe US Patent Nos. 8,589,541 and 9,215,613, according to a complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.

Headwater sued wireless carriers including Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T over the technology in 2023, and served Google with subpoenas in those lawsuits, Google said in its complaint.
