Google Says Smartwatches Don’t Infringe Wearable Tech Patent

Google LLC filed a lawsuit seeking a court’s judgment that its fitness watches don’t infringe a patent, arguing it’s necessary after a developer voluntarily dismissed its prior suit asserting the patent against the tech giant.

Google faces “substantial risk” of new infringement allegations from patent owner CaridacSense Ltd., it argued in a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. CardiacSense sued Google in December 2024 over US Patent No. 7,980,998, but voluntarily dismissed the Texas lawsuit in April.
