Google Owes $15 Million in Audio-Playback Patents Trial Loss (2)

Alphabet Inc.’s Google must pay $15.1 million for infringement of two patents related to audio-program playback by its Google Play Music application, a federal jury said.

Google actively induced users of unlicensed Android phones with the app installed to infringe the claims that jurors earlier found were valid and infringed, according to a verdict docketed Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of Delaware.

Jurors also found the infringement was intentional, giving the judge the option to increase the award by as much as triple the amount.
