Google Moves to Cancel Voice-to-Text, Virtual Keyboard Patents

Google LLC asked the US Patent and Trademark Office to review and cancel two patents related to a system that generates text in response to voice and handwritten inputs.

Buffalo Patents LLC’s US Patent Nos. 6,904,405 and 8,204,737 should be canceled because the inventions were obvious when considering prior art, Google’s said in two petitions seeking inter partes review filed at the patent office’s administrative tribunal on Tuesday.

Though Google hasn’t been sued for infringing the patents, it said Buffalo Patents’ lawsuit against Motorola is based in part “on alleged activities relating to products that incorporate Google’s Gboard application.”
