Google Defeats Inventor’s Lawsuit Over Mapping Software Patents

Google LLC won dismissal of an inventor’s lawsuit accusing Google Maps of infringing five patents covering location-based advertising tools because the inventions are linked to a tainted patent application.

Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein dismissed Sholem Weisner’s lawsuit Thursday after holding a bench trial earlier this month in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. At the end of the trial, Hellerstein concluded that Google had shown Weisner engaged in inequitable conduct by “clear and convincing evidence,” Google said in a Wednesday filing seeking entry of judgment.
