Google Can Keep Global Chromecast Data Secret in Patent Case

Google LLC won a favorable ruling that will allow the company to keep global usage metrics for its Chromecast wireless streaming products secret from a patent litigation opponent.

In June 2021, Touchstream Technologies, Inc., sued Google in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas for alleged infringement of US Patent Nos. 8,356,251, 8,782,528, and 8,904,289. Touchstream’s founder, a former New York community college employee, obtained the patents after devising a way in 2010 for people to play videos on small devices like phones and play them on larger screens, according to the complaint.
