Google Beats Claims It Infringed Ad Tech Patents at Fed. Cir.

Google LLC defeated a litigation-funded patent infringement lawsuit over online advertising technology at the Federal Circuit, with the panel affirming claims of the seven asserted were either invalid or not copied.

Claims from two of Impact Engine Inc.'s patents—US Patent Nos. 7,870,497 and 10,565,618— covered “the abstract idea of processing information—turning user-provided input into user-tailored output—and not any improved concrete tools or methods by which that processing functionality is achieved,” wrote Judge Richard G. Taranto of US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in an opinion issued Wednesday.
