Google Beats Allegations Over Location Detection Patent

Google LLC beat allegations that its Map and Pixel products infringed a WSOU Investments LLC patent due to an issue with the interpretation of key terms related to performing claim steps, a Texas federal judge said.

Judge Alan D. Albright orally granted Google’s motion for judgment as a matter of law in the trial over WSOU’s US Patent No. 8,737,961 before issuing the order and opinion filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas. The protected technology can derive or predict location context for a mobile device user, according to the opinion.
