GlobalFoundries Inc. owes Katana Silicon Technologies LLC $9.2 million for infringing a patent by selling semiconductor products.
GlobalFoundries and its American unit infringed one claim of US Patent No. 6,291,861, an Austin jury determined Friday afternoon after deliberations that had begun the day before.
The jury determined GlobalFoundries didn’t infringe two of the three asserted patent claims. The semiconductor manufacturer, though, didn’t prove the patents were invalid.
A GlobalFoundries spokesperson said in an email that it disagrees with the infringement verdict and plan to “take appropriate next steps” while remaining “focused on delivering technologies our customers need.”
