Gibson Dunn Survives Disqualification Bid in Texas Patent Fight

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP has overcome a disqualification bid by Viasat Inc., which tried to block the law firm from representing opponent Western Digital Corp. in an ongoing patent fight in Texas federal court.

Western District of Texas Judge Alan Albright, in Waco, said Gibson Dunn had “provided adequate safeguards” to prevent information sharing between Western Digital’s lawyers and their colleagues who worked on a Viasat appeal in a different lawsuit involving licensed computer memory technology. Albright announced his decision in a brief docket entry made late Tuesday.
